Friday 30th September 2016
Well I cannot believe that this day has finally arrived. I woke up this morning and I thought to myself that today is the day. Plus I can at last give The Pimple Clan and the Chafed Nipple Brigade a bit of a rest.
I ride into work today with Sarah (Laura Trott) Prince and Tony (Froome) Norman. Talk about put me through it, my bloody thighs were burning and still had 15 miles to go!! All the time both of them were saying “It’s because it’s your last day”
We then met up at The National Cycling Centre with everyone who was going to ride the final few miles with me and Chris Bibby on his hand cycle. It was fantastic to see everyone there along with Mr David Guest from the BBC and also all the SkyRide co-ordinators. I appreciate everything that SkyRide and British Cycling have done to Tweet Chris’s story and my challenge out to the general public.
NICE PICTURE OUTSIDE BRITISH CYCLING
Chris and I continued to do or Media Work (Sounds so professional!!) with Tower FM and with BBC Northwest Tonight following us we set together with myself and Chris leading us out of the Velodrome. This was to be the last few miles of this epic adventure and challenge for me. I have to admit on many occasions I became emotional.
My emotions continued especially when riding down to Nexus House I could see probably the majority of the building outside waiting for us and cheering Chris and I across a finish line made from scene tape.
The BBC stayed out our offices whilst they got their material ready for the news and it was at this time that I went for a long hot shower and then a coffee with some wonderful cake that had been Kindly Donated by ZARA Cakes in Prestwich.
The cakes were absolutely devine I actually have never tasted a nicer cupcake. I must add that Zara Cakes have now offered to continue to raise money to help Chris and his family, therefore I believe that companies with this ethos should be well supported by the community. Plus again the cakes ARE devine
The BBC then produced the following footage and this was shown on BBC Northwest Tonight along with during the lunch time session
This was a fantastic day and I cannot thank the people enough for their sponsorship and for what they have done for Chris and his family.
Well after cycling 1300 miles, I decide rather than take a taxi home or at least part way home I will cycle home (as if I’ve not had enough) Well it’s another punishing ride home with Dunners, Sarah, Tony & Matt Dickinson. But a very enjoyable and satisfying ride
PLEASE SEE VIDEO OF THE DAY
TO CAP THIS DAY OFF IN THE BEST WAY – Well I was greeted by my amazing wife Sandy who has supported me all the way through this Challenge and my wonderful son Archie, who by the way plays the soundtrack to this next video. (Archie was also over the moon with his Rapha TEAM SKY baseball cap from the Tour Bus – Thanks Mr Bibby)
